Sunrise Lagoon Tours is a family operation on the eastern side of Aitutaki. We take small groups out from Vaipae Hollywood Wharf, share the culture we grew up with, and bring you back with a story worth telling.
Who you will be out with
Our captains were raised on this lagoon. They know which passage is calm on a given tide, where the giant trevally hold, and which motu has shade at the hour you will want it. That is not something you learn from a chart. It is why a day with us rarely runs exactly to a timetable, and why guests tell us it felt like being shown around by family rather than booked onto a tour.
The culture comes with the day
Every tour includes time on the sand doing things our families have always done. Depending on which tour you pick, that means plate and hat weaving, husking and grating coconuts, squeezing the cream by hand, uto, and the old fishing techniques with patia and spear. Children usually end up better at the weaving than their parents.
Where we leave from
Share tours, private charters and fishing charters depart from Vaipae Hollywood Wharf on the eastern side of the island. The Honeymoon Island water taxi departs from Arutanga Harbour. Our pricing covers the eastern side of the lagoon, and a Honeymoon Island stop can be added to a private charter.
Return transfers from your accommodation are included on every tour and charter, so you do not need a vehicle. Tell us where you are staying when you book and we will sort the pick-up time with you.
Looking after the lagoon
The lagoon feeds our families and it is the reason people come to Aitutaki. We ask every guest to leave the coral, shells and marine life where they are, and to take everything else home with them. Small things, but they add up across a season.
